Ultimately, insulin resistance can set in, leading to diabetes and other health issues.

New research published in the Archives of Internal Medicine shows that people who spend a lot of time sitting may be up to 40% more likely to die from any cause, compared to people who don’t sit as long.Researchers link sitting for long periods of time with a number of health concerns:

  • A nearly 50 percent increased risk of death from any cause
  • About a 125 percent increased risk of events associated with cardiovascular disease, such as chest pain (angina) or heart attack
  • Obesity and metabolic syndrome
  • Increased blood pressure, high blood sugar
  • Excess body fat around the waist & bottom
  • Abnormal cholesterol levels
  • Restlessness
  • Foggy brain, memory problems
  • Lethargy (extreme tiredness)
  • Slower metabolism & weight gain

Unfortunately, research shows that extra-curricular trips to the gym — running the mornings before work or hitting up a post-office spin class – can’t undo the effects of a day spent sitting.

  • An estimated 300,000 people die each year from problems related to obesity.
  • As your weight increases so do your chances of dying.
  • Even moderate weight gains (10 to 20 pounds for a person of average height) increases the risk of death, particularly among adults aged 30 to 64 years – the normal ages of most online entrepreneurs!
  • People with a BMI > 30 * have a 50 to 100% increased risk of premature death from all causes, compared to individuals with a healthy weight. (If you don’t understand BMI and what yours is, keep reading – I can show you how easy it is to to figure that out so you know where you stand).
